FUN FACT: The Boston Cooler, made with ginger ale and vanilla ice cream, has origins in Detroit and was copyrighted by Vernors in 1967.

Hey, it’s JB!

It’s officially summer and with it the welcome sight of smokers, grills, and food tents back on Detroit’s street corners.

Last fall, Laura Herberg (formerly with WDET-FM and now at Outlier Media) and I visited some pop-ups to try the food, learn the stories of the chefs, and we even discovered the garage where the smokers are made for many of these pop-ups.

We wrote a feature story and produced an audio segment. I’m not an audio reporter so I am in awe of how Laura pulled the radio version together, it’s a real treat to listen to!

What’s your favorite street food pop-up in Detroit?

Please send me any and all information you might have — the name, address, hours, and pictures. I’ll make a map to share for the summer season!

Dig In,
JB
