The city of Detroit’s Planning and Development Department (PDD) is in the final stages of updating the city’s Master Plan of policies, but there’s still time for residents to share feedback.
“We can’t do this work without the input of the community,” Dara O’Byrne, PDD deputy director, told council members on Tuesday. City officials provided an update on the Master Plan and community engagement efforts so far, which has included hundreds of participants.
The set of policies are meant to be a “roadmap for Detroit’s future.” The plan, which hasn’t been comprehensively updated since 2009, identifies the city’s priorities for the next couple of decades, directs city departments and council members on where to allocate resources and sets the foundation for development and zoning in neighborhoods, according to the city’s website. The City Council directed PDD to update the Master Plan. The process, which began in 2024, is expected to wrap up this year.
“We are in the home stretch, which is really exciting for a long process like this, but I do want to reassure everyone there is more time to engage,” O’Byrne said.
PDD is in the process of revising maps and policies and will go back out into the community for feedback, online and in person, and fill in gaps as needed.
