Hey, it’s JB!

Exciting news this week – Filipino bakery pop-up JP Makes and Bakes has secured a brick and mortar on Woodward in New Center.

It’s been exactly a year since I first wrote about JP Makes and Bakes for BridgeDetroit and Jonathan Peregrino’s signature purple pastries made with ube, a purple yam native to Southeast Asia. In addition to ube brownies and cookies, he also makes traditional Filipino pandesal (bread rolls), chocolates, and more.

Earlier this year, Peregrino was awarded a $60,000 Motor City Match grant to open the brick and mortar. Until its opening sometime this summer, you can catch him May 16 from 5-10 p.m.  at the Little Asian Bites night market at Eastern Market and at other pop-ups throughout the summer.
