Hey, it’s JB!

I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Detroit broke records on Tuesday for its hottest February day, with recordings of 73 degrees F.

It’s part of an average warming trend of more than 5 degrees F since the 1970s in Detroit, and it means some challenges for Detroit’s more than 2,000 gardeners and farmers.

I talked to a few farmers to learn more. As far as positives, it means a longer growing season. But it also means more pests and potentially less fruit and nut harvests. Check out the full story below.

In other news… last week I asked you to vote in my poll on a possible ordinance that would allow Detroit residents to keep chickens, ducks, and honeybees. Thank you to the 133 who voted!

Here were the responses: Yes (73.7%), No (15.8%) and “Maybe, I have questions” (10.5%).

If you were one of the 14 people who said “Maybe,” hit the button at the bottom of the email and send me your questions! I’ll try to get them answered.

Dig In,
JB
