Hey, it’s JB!

A lifelong Detroiter is set to open a non-alcoholic bottle shop and bar at the end of the month in the Live and Six neighborhood on the city’s west side.

Mockery Zero Proof opens Nov. 30 at 7400 W. McNichols with nonalcoholic spirits, wines and beers and small bites as well as products like mocktail glassware, candles, incense and bathrobes. Owner Karlyta Williams will craft mocktails at the small bar and sell nonalcoholic wine flights. Williams hopes to offer a different kind of space for people to enjoy the same social ritual and experience of drinking, but without the negative effects of alcohol that some experience, like tiredness and weight gain.

The anticipated opening comes amid a surge in interest in nonalcoholic drinks in Michigan and another nonalcoholic bar set to open in Southwest Detroit sometime in the future.
