Actor and filmmaker Bruce Campbell grew up in Metro Detroit and got his start in film here, making 1981’s “The Evil Dead” with his group of Michigander filmmaker friends, including director Sam Raimi. Now Campbell returns to Michigan to show his new film “Ernie & Emma” at the Redford Theater in Detroit, where “The Evil Dead” premiered in 1981.

“Ernie and Emma” is a comedy/drama starring Campbell as a widower embarking on a journey to scatter his late wife’s ashes, guided by letters from her that take him back to various important places from their life together.

Campbell produced the film independently with his wife Ida Gearon. He wrote and directed the film, with many of his “Evil Dead” series collaborators returning to work with him. He is now preparing for a multi-city tour, hosting screenings of the film.

One Detroit’s Chris Jordan spoke to Bruce Campbell about “Ernie & Emma,” the process of producing it independently and the homecoming screening at The Redford.

It will screen at the theater Friday, June 5 at 8 p.m. with Campbell hosting the screening and doing a Q&A after the film.
