FUN FACT: Better Made’s first flavored chip was barbeque.

Hey, it’s JB!

We’re entering soup season and my coworker Malachi Barrett asked me to put together a list of the best soups in Detroit. I’m not the biggest fan of soup, especially if I’m eating out. So, I asked the newsroom what their favorite soups are in Detroit!

Bryce Huffman, engagement editor: The lemon chicken rice or broccoli cheddar soup at Noni’s Sherwood Grill.

Micah Walker, reporter: The chicken pot pie soup from Lunchtime Global downtown is so good! The soup is creamy and the chicken is always tender.

Laurén Abdel-Razzaq, executive director: The matzo ball soup at Gateway Deli on Fort Street. I used to go there whenever I was sick, it was like magic and fixed whatever illness I had. Unfortunately, the place closed and now you have to go to their Southfield deli to get it. My second choice is chicken lemon rice soup from National Coney Island.

Malachi Barrett, reporter: White bean chili soup from Ottava Via, exactly what I was looking for on one of the first rainy chilly days of fall.

Stephen Henderson, founder and executive advisor: Lobster bisque at Detroit Athletic Club or the crab bisque at London Chophouse. But it used to be something like sausage potato soup at Russell Street Deli…good God, I miss that.

If I had to choose a favorite soup I’d choose Detroit SOUP, an event where community members pitch their business ideas for a pot of money, and the audience votes on a winner over bowls of soup and bread. It’s a special, wholesome community event. I even participated a few years ago and won $1,150 for my business, JB’s Ice Pops!

If you haven’t been to a Detroit SOUP, you’re in luck because the next one is tonight, catered by The Mushroom Hub! Check out event details here.

And, another soup event sure to fill your heart and stomach, the Polish Soup Festival on Oct. 27 will feature 12 polish soups, European pastries, polish beer and Belgian waffles with a live polka band. Check out event details here.

What are your favorite soups to buy in Detroit? Let me know and I’ll make a list for next week’s newsletter.

Dig In,
JB
