FUN FACT: The groundwork for Detroit’s urban farming scene was set in 1975 with the former mayor Coleman A. Young’s formation of the Farm-A-Lot program.
Hey, it’s JB!
Exciting news today for everyone sick of hearing about a new coffee shop opening every week in Detroit: There are two new tea cafes!
Lily’s and Elise Tea House opened a few weeks ago on the Avenue of Fashion and later this year, CommodiTeas is expected to open in West Village near Sister Pie. Better yet, they’re both owned by Detroit women with familial ties to the neighborhoods.

Did you know the city now has 100 coffee shops, but possibly didn’t have a single tea cafe until a few weeks ago? (We used to have SocraTea but it closed last fall, switching to online sales.)
I’m an avid coffee drinker – like, multiple cups of cold brew a day – and I’ve been trying to chill out. Maybe this is just what I needed!
Dig In,
JB
