Hey, it’s JB!

If you’re a food business owner in Detroit, this summer is looking bright thanks to a new free monthly event series.

Eastern Market and In The Business are launching “Happy Hour in the Market,” bringing together food entrepreneurs and farmers on local farms for tours, locally made food, coffee and mocktails, and live DJs.

The Happy Hour is version 2.0 of the Community Conversations held at Eastern Market, free monthly learning workshops for food entrepreneurs, led by In the Business of Food founder Ederique Goudia.

“We heard from local entrepreneurs and business owners that they wanted to be connected more to local sourcing in the midst of increased costs and tariffs,” said Goudia. “For local food businesses, that means connecting them with local farmers, growers, and producers … It’s a fun way to connect food businesses and farmers as a way to start to build those relationships and support the entire local food ecosystem.”

The first Happy Hour in the Market is June 23 at Keep Growing Detroit.

Sounds like a party to me!

Speaking of peaches…did you know we grow peaches here in Detroit? People are often surprised when I mention it, so I wanted to make sure you knew! These are peaches I bought at the Eastern Market Tuesday market from Beaverland Farms, located in Brightmoor.

Rode my bike downtown with a friend to grab a drink at Paramita and stopped by the hot dog cart outside of Queens Bar for a veggie dog. For a city that eats late, we need more late night spots! Thank goodness for the hot dog cart.
