August is National Black Business Month. As we have talked about numerous times on American Black Journal, access to capital is one of the biggest challenges for African American entrepreneurs. The Detroit-based initiative “Venture 313” helps Black tech founders tackle this barrier and others by providing access to capital, mentorship, networking, and other resources.
Host Stephen Henderson sits down with Belvin Liles, a Venture 313 managing partner and principal of ID Ventures, and Karissma Yve, founder & CEO of Gildform. Liles talks about the assistance provided through Venture 313 and how it not only lifts up African American business owners, but it also further strengthens Detroit’s tech ecosystem. Yve explains what her AI product creation company does and reflects on how she became interested in the field of manufacturing as a teenager. She talks about how Venture 313 helped support her vision and entrepreneurial path.
