GET TICKETS: Join BridgeDetroit reporters at Detroit Story Fest

Dear readers,

At BridgeDetroit, our reporters and staff spend their time focused on telling the stories of residents of this city and helping to provide information on issues that impact them. In October, our newsroom is participating in an event where we can tell our own stories. 

We’ll go behind the scenes of our reporting and invite listeners into a world they’ve only observed from the outside.

We’ll be part of Detroit Story Fest, a storytelling festival that aims to uplift community voices, quality journalism and local art. The event is from 7-10 p.m. on Oct. 10 at the Detroit Film Theatre inside the Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 John R St.

The theme of this year’s Story Fest is “Singing From the Shadows.”

We’ll be in good company: Other participants include journalists, writers, editors and producers from WDET, the Detroit Free Press, Planet Detroit, Michigan Public, Model D, Detroit Metro Times, Chalkbeat Detroit, and Twisted Storytellers.

There will also be surprise performances, live music, art, drinks and more.

In addition to providing a platform for diverse voices – with two-thirds of all participants being women or a person of color – Story Fest is also an opportunity to get some funding. A portion of every ticket we sell comes back to support our newsroom. And there are several sponsorship options, if anyone is interested in being a supporter at a higher level. Detroit Story Fest is put on by the nonprofit Back Pocket Media and is supported by the Knight Foundation, the DIA and Friends of the Detroit Film Theatre.
