Detroit Story Fest is fast approaching, and we want to see you there!

We’ll be part of the storytelling festival that aims to uplift community voices, quality journalism and local art. It’s from 7-10 p.m. on Oct. 10 at the Detroit Film Theatre inside the Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 John R St.

The theme of this year’s Story Fest is “Singing From the Shadows.”

Other participants include journalists, writers, editors and producers from WDET-FM, the Detroit Free Press, Planet Detroit, Michigan Public, Model D, Detroit Metro Times, Chalkbeat Detroit, and Twisted Storytellers.

There will also be surprise performances, live music, art, drinks and more. In addition to providing a platform for diverse voices – with two-thirds of  participants being women or people of color – Story Fest is also an opportunity to get some funding. A portion of every ticket we sell comes back to support our newsroom. And there are several sponsorship options, if anyone is interested in being a supporter at a higher level. (If you want more information, email sponsorship@backpocket.media)

It will also be a chance to get the latest copy of our new magazine, which drops in October, and check in with BridgeDetroit reporters and editors. It promises to be a great night of celebration for all forms of storytelling!
