Hey, everyone! Welcome back to Culture Canvas,

For those who love to support young artists, this event is for you. Youth organization InsideOut Literary Arts is hosting a free release event from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Next Chapter Books on Detroit’s east side for its poetry chapbook. The book is filled with poetry from InsideOut’s Detroit Youth Performance Troupe. New and old poems will be performed alongside the announcement of their 2024 poetry collection. InsideOut alum Charisma Holly will be gracing the stage as the featured poet.  The coaches of the 2024 troupe will also share their work and musings with the audience.

Since 1995, InsideOut has provided Detroit kids and teens access to poetry and other forms of creative writing including in-school and after-school writing programs, workshops and events.

In March, the organization hosted its second annual Detroit Youth Poetry Con. The event featured workshops for teens ages 13-19 on topics such as navigating creative writing across genres and career paths within the arts.

As always, have a great week, Detroiters!
