Xiao Dong Wei is a Detroit-based composer, musician and master of the erhu — the Chinese two-stringed violin. She will be headlining the next show in the Concert of Colors Neighborhood Programs series at the Detroit Shipping Company on Sept. 26.
Wei’s eclectic body of work spans classical, alternative chamber music, bluegrass, jazz, and rock, which she plays with her band Madame XD.
One Detroit’s Chris Jordan recently sat down with Wei to talk about her wide-ranging career, her new original symphony, which she played with the Michigan Philharmonic, her work with Concert of Colors, and the upcoming show.
