The annual citywide display of community pride known as ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day marks its 20th anniversary on Saturday, August 1. The event — and the organization — were founded by the late Luther Keith, a former newspaper journalist and executive director of ARISE Detroit!
Host Stephen Henderson sits down with Luther’s daughter and ARISE Detroit! Board Member, Erin Keith, to talk about this milestone anniversary for both the event and the nonprofit organization. Keith talks about what led her father to create ARISE Detroit! and its signature event, Neighborhoods Day. She reflects on how she grew up participating in Neighborhoods Day activities, and she discusses some of the groups taking part in this year’s event. Keith also looks ahead to the future of the organization and the importance of preserving her father’s vision and legacy.
