The 47th annual Detroit Jazz Festival takes center stage at downtown Detroit’s Hart Plaza over the Labor Day weekend. In what has become a special yearly episode, American Black Journal previews the popular free event and gives viewers the first look at the Detroit Jazz Festival poster. Host Stephen Henderson sits down with Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation President & Artistic Director Chris Collins, jazz pianist Sequoia “REDWOOD” Snyder, and Jocelyn “Jo” Lewis, the 2026 Detroit Jazz Festival poster artist.
Collins talks about the new consolidation of stages at Hart Plaza that will enhance the jazz experience for attendees. He also talks about how additional performances will take place at the Detroit Jazz Hall in the Gretchen C. Valade Jazz Center at Wayne State University. Collins provides a glimpse at the lineup for this year’s festival, which includes global jazz stars and rising artists. He also talks about how streaming has helped expand the festival’s reach.
