Hey, it’s JB!

I was sipping on cold brew at one of my regular coffee spots the other day when I overheard that the owners of the former Chung’s restaurant in Detroit’s Cass Corridor are still looking for tenants.

The building housed the famous Chung’s Cantonese Cuisine before it closed in 2000. The property sat vacant and became dilapidated before the current owners bought it in 2023 and began renovations.

Work on the building completed earlier this spring, the owners told me, and said they’ve had “a lot of interest” from potential tenants, but haven’t found the right fit yet. The goal is to have Asian food businesses fill the space to honor the legacy of the building and historic Chinatown.

While I was working on this story I came across several other happenings coming up related to Chinatown like the first Chinatown block party and a second street sign unveiling.
