Hey, it’s JB!

Over the last year, Moondog Cafe, a spot on Linwood and Montgomery in the Wildemere Park Neighborhood, has quietly become the coolest new music spot in the city.

The small listening lounge and concert cafe features a lot of Detroit talent and experimental music, in addition to so many other kinds of events: film screenings and panels, book clubs, collage nights with live music and more. They also have a coffee and tea cafe with pastries from local producers.

On April 5, it officially opens with a lineup including: Whodat, Supreme Gratitude, the Caleb Robinson Trio, Jon Dixon (my piano teacher!) and Ahya Simone.

After visiting the spot for an electronic, improvisational cello and keys performance, a film screening and panel featuring one of the originators of Detroit Jit, and most recently a live performance from Dick Texas, it’s become one of my new favorites. But don’t take my word for it – Detroit jazz legend Wendell Harrison also endorsed it.

Dig in,

JB
