I’m excited to share information about the upcoming Youth Public Safety Town Hall that BridgeDetroit is hosting along with the Detroit Public Library!

I spent years covering policing transparency and accountability as a reporter and, this past school year, working as a long-term substitute for the Detroit Public Schools Community District. This event combines both of those experiences but I want to make it clear, this event is not about me. It’s about the young folks in our city getting the chance to talk about their experiences.

Middle and high school students deal with so many hard facts of life, many of which aren’t in their control. So we want to hear about what they are going through, what they think about gun violence in our communities, what they think about the threat of violence in school, and the solutions they believe our local and state officials should be advocating for.

Teachers, parents, coaches and other mentors for our city’s children, please spread the word about this event! We want to hear from the people who will one day be leaders in our neighborhoods, in our city and across the country. Share your thoughts and connect with other kids who might be experiencing the same things as you from all over the city.

We can’t wait to see you there!

Sincerely,
Bryce Huffman
