FUN FACT: Michigan is the country’s No. 1 producer of asparagus.
Hey, it’s JB!
If you live in Corktown, you may be wondering why an orange box on wheels is roaming around the neighborhood.
It’s an autonomous robot that picks up food scraps from homes and transports them to Brother Nature, a neighborhood farm where they are turned into compost.
The project is led by Scrap Soils, a nonprofit composting service in Detroit.

Composting is a good way to eliminate harmful greenhouse gas emissions created when food is thrown in the trash and sent to landfills. Since 2020, a Scrap Soils has collected food scraps from homes and businesses to compost via truck, which creates greenhouse gasses itself.
But in June, the company began its robot to see whether it can cut down on the emissions associated with its business. The team is hopeful that it will.
