Detroit-area veterans who feel strongly about supporting suicide prevention efforts can sign up to participate in a photoshoot to bring awareness to the issue and get a $200 gift card.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is currently casting for photo sessions on April 4 and 5 in Detroit. The photos will be used as part of the Suicide Prevention Office’s communications materials throughout the year, including the website, brochures and outreach efforts.
Green Buzz Agency out of Alexandria, Va., is looking to book 14-25 veterans for the campaign. The agency has done photoshoots in other cities, but this is the first time they are focused on Detroit. The goal is to spread awareness about the VA’s suicide prevention programs while destigmatizing seeking help.

“A lot of people resonate deeply with this and feel good about being involved,” said casting associate Marua Knopke. “We don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable about it.”
To be considered, veterans need to complete this survey no later than Friday, March 21. Veterans who appear to meet the casting requirements will receive follow-up communications with more details. There will be a vetting process to confirm veteran status.
Those chosen for the project will only need to attend one day; sessions will be three hours long and take place in the morning and afternoon. Sessions will feature groups of five veterans, in both group and solo photos.
Those chosen to participate will receive a $200 Amazon gift card. Attendance is required to receive compensation.
Any veteran is welcome, with a special interest in a diverse range of ages, genders, sexual orientations, races and ethnicities, and military branches. The casting agency says it is especially interested in highlighting veterans who identify as women and members of the LGBTQIA+, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian or Pacific Islander, and Hispanic communities.
