You are invited to join the BridgeDetroit team for the summer 2024 conversation series.
BridgeDetroit makes it a priority to be out in the community talking to residents about the issues they care about. So like we have done in the past, BridgeDetroit will host free monthly events between June and September to engage with Detroiters looking to share and receive vital information.
The four Community Conversations each center around a different topic including elections and voter access, what reparations ought to look like in Detroit and the I-375 project, housing and home repair, and resources for refugees and immigrants.
While BridgeDetroit staffers collectively came up with the topics, the goal for the series is not only to have reporters talk to residents, but also to hear directly from city and state officials and agencies that administer programming as well as the Detroiters most affected by these issues.
“The goal and mission of BridgeDetroit is to align our newsroom priorities with the Detroit communities that we were created to serve,” BridgeDetroit’s Managing Editor Christine Ferretti said. “Our summer Conversation Series brings us face-to-face with residents to provide an ear, information and potential solutions to the issues impacting them most.”
The first event in this summer’s Conversation Series is about election information and voter access. It is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Chroma Building, 2937 E. Grand Blvd. Detroit, MI 48202. The program will be moderated by BridgeDetroit Reporter Malachi Barrett. Panelists include: Detroit Deputy City Clerk Andre Gilbert, Clerk’s office Chief of Operations Daniel Baxter and Branden Snyder, executive director of Detroit Action. Dinner will be provided and tickets are free.

For the past two years, BridgeDetroit has held summer and fall events to better engage with and understand our audience.
Last year, the inaugural Conversation Series, led by founding BridgeDetroit Engagement Director Orlando Bailey, focused on neighborhood beautification, housing resources, water affordability and transit.
Back in 2022, BridgeDetroit, in collaboration with Detroit is Different, held summer town hall events in each of the city’s seven City Council districts and an eighth citywide event at Belle Isle.
