The mayor’s race is Craig’s third swing at political office since retiring from the Detroit Police Department in 2021. Both of his previous campaigns ended before voters could cast a ballot for him.

Malachi Barrett is a mission-oriented reporter working to liberate information for Detroiters.
Barrett previously worked for MLive covering local news and statewide politics in Muskegon, Kalamazoo, Lansing and Detroit. He was named Michigan’s 2019 Newspaper Rising Star by the Associated Press. Barrett graduated from Central Michigan University in 2016.
Barrett lives in Detroit's Pingree Park neighborhood on the eastside with his wife. He's mostly from Battle Creek, but also lived in California, Wisconsin, West Virginia, South Carolina and Japan.

Detroit bus shelters are scarce as advocates call for more funding
Mayor Mike Duggan’s budget calls for a $20 million increase for DDOT, for a total of $209 million, with a goal of hiring more bus drivers and mechanics while adding the number of buses on the road. The recommendation, which needs City Council approval, includes $289,967 for bus shelters.
