The non-profit organization COTS Detroit, which provides emergency shelter and supportive housing, is marking the 10th anniversary of its “Passport to Self-Sufficiency” framework by releasing a publication titled, “COTS is Care.” The publication documents a decade of helping stabilize families who were experiencing homelessness or at-risk of becoming homeless.
Host Stephen Henderson speaks with COTS CEO Cheryl Johnson and “Passport to Self-Sufficiency” participant Shoushanna Simpson. Johnson explains the origin of the Passport idea and how it addresses generational poverty. Simpson describes the situation she was in with her children, living in a home with no heat or hot water. Now, with the help of the Passport to Self-Sufficiency initiative, her future is much brighter, professionally and personally.
