The city’s Housing and Revitalization Department has rolled out a new online application designed to make it easier to purchase city-owned and select Detroit Land Bank Authority properties.
The application replaces an older format and will be used for city surplus properties, including industrial, commercial, and high-density residential parcels and for DLBA-owned properties not currently listed on BuildingDetroit.org.
“This new application is about respecting people’s time and making it easier for Detroiters to work with their city,” Julie Schneider, director of the Housing and Revitalization Department, said in a news release.
Applicants can access the new City of Detroit Property Portal at buyproperty.detroitmi.gov.
The previous application process was outdated and resulted in a high volume of incomplete submissions and unnecessary delays, according to the city. Applicants were unable to save draft applications, review what they had submitted, or easily upload supporting materials.
The new application process offers a secure login, application status tracking, simplified document uploads and other improvements to speed processing time.
The new online property application works alongside the Detroit Development Opportunities Map, an interactive public tool that allows residents, entrepreneurs and developers to see properties available across the city. Users can explore properties by location and ownership before applying.

Corrupt Land Bank, selling hundreds of properties to outside speculators that let the properties rot, must be eliminated in the Mayor is serious about housing for Detroiters.
